Pottery by Create I do

Handmade, or homemade, has always been a part of the definition of who I am and how I express myself. Create I do.

When I was younger, gifts made by hand were the only gifts I could afford to give. Over time I came to understand anything handmade - be it a meal, a note card, or a piece of art - is created from the heart and a piece of my heart accompanies the gift given. 

Creating has also helped me process the daily stresses and griefs of life. Getting completely lost in the process and forgetting to watch the clock is therapeutic. There are also so many life lessons learned while creating. Bravery, acceptance, the ability to find beauty and reinvention. One learns not to be afraid of the challenges a new project or new medium bring. You learn acceptance because pieces rarely come out exactly like you pictured them and that does not make it a failure, or less beautiful, or less meaningful. I have learned to reinvent my pieces during the process working with my medium so that it becomes an expression of myself. 

But most important, the process of creating is relational.  When I am making a piece for someone specific, I hold them in my heart and that energy goes into my work.  Even when I don’t know who will ultimately enjoy the results of my work, I am still creating from the heart to add beauty and joy to the world. Intention matters

I wander through craft shows and boutiques in amazement. I love to see how people bring their unique creativity to life in the things they make. I am in constant awe of what others can imagine and then bring to life.
